Welcome to my blog on the subject of manufacturing in Connecticut. Any suggestions to make my blog better will be greatly appreciated. I'll give you my back ground in the manufacturing field. I graduated from Howell Cheney Vocational High School in Manchester CT. in the tool and die trade in 1979. I worked in various job shops in the South Windsor, Manchester area including Auto Machine, Electro Methods and Wesco Ind. Then I made the big jump to Hamilton Standard for 6 years when I was caught in the layoffs. I went back to a job shop in Manchester called Ability Machine Co. were after 4 years I became a partner and a couple years later my wife and I bought out my partner. Ability had 2 shifts and 28 employees, we manufactured interior aircraft seat components BE Aerospace. We were forced to close two years after 9-11, do to our major customer, BE moved to Ireland along with all our work. I took a year off to do some consulting and teach MasterCam. With help from close friends, my wife and I started a small job shop in Bloomfield. At present we are 4 employees, myself, my wife and our son and now his wife. Our son also graduated from Cheney and is a skilled machinist in his own right.
So I think this blog will be about starting a Job Shop in Connecticut.
